Start a new project by selecting New Project from the File Menu.
When you create a new project, Helpmatic will create your first topic for you called topic1.htm. The text inside the first topic explains that you are running in template mode. You can safely delete this text after reading, which should leave you with this:
The text in the blue header will change to whatever you call the topic when you edit the topic properties.
