Can I create help files for Windows
3.1 using Helpmatic Pro ?
No, sorry. Helpmatic Pro only creates help files compatible with Windows
95/98/NT4/2000/XP. However you can use the 16 bit Helpmatic to create help
files for Windows 3.1. Helpmatic is a cut down version of Helpmatic Pro
that is for Windows 3.1 only. More information on Helpmatic.
Where can I find more information on
WinHelp ?
The excellent Helpmaster site (http://www.helpmaster.com)
by Josef Becker is one of the best sources of WinHelp information. Also
another information gold mine is the Help Authoring Guide (by Microsoft)
that comes with the Help Compiler.
Help!!! Helpmatic Pro is taking too
long to compile my project. Before it used to take about 5 seconds, but
now it's taking upto 40 seconds.
Go to Project options in the Project Menu and uncheck the 'Compression'
option. Generally you would check the compression option when you compile
your help file for the last time because it significantly increases compile
time.
I have copied my help file onto another machine, but the contents
tab does not show any entries?
The contents tab data is held in another file with a .cnt extension.
Look inside your project folder, there will be a .cnt file with
the same name as your .hlp file. Copy this .cnt file together
with your .hlp file, and keep them together in the same folder.
When attempting to access the help file using the F1 key,
a message appears, Win name "LangRef" was not defined in
your project file? Ensure Help Author is switched off in MS Help Workshop,
the option should be in the file menu of Help Workshop. Help
Workshop should be in your programs folder in the start menu.
